inquirED Launches Inkwell, a K-2 ELA Curriculum That Integrates ELA and Social Studies Into One Block
Inkwell saves time in the crowded elementary schedule, teaching language comprehension, writing, and social studies together instead of as separate programs.
CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, August 11, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- inquirED, the elementary curriculum company behind the K-5 social studies program Inquiry Journeys, today announced the general availability of Inkwell, a core K-2 English Language Arts curriculum that fully integrates ELA and social studies into a single daily instructional block. Districts can adopt Inkwell now for the 2027-28 school year.
Most elementary schools teach language comprehension, writing, grammar, and social studies as separate programs competing for a finite number of minutes, and social studies is often the subject that gets cut. Inkwell takes a different approach. It combines ELA and social studies into one coherent 70-minute block, so students build content knowledge and literacy skills at the same time, from the same texts. When students have background knowledge on a topic, they read about it more easily, understand more of what they encounter, and can write about it with clarity.
Every Inkwell unit builds sustained, coherent knowledge through social studies content, so students develop both the skills and the knowledge base that reading comprehension actually requires. Students read from a curated set of trade books, Sourcibles, and primary sources, building social studies knowledge and ELA skills together. Step-by-step lesson plans and ready-to-use materials give teachers everything they need in one place. Inkwell replaces traditional language comprehension, writing, grammar, and social studies programs and is designed to be used alongside foundational skills curriculum.
Inkwell is available now for adoption for the 2027-28 school year for grades K-2. Grades 3-5 are in development.
