Zero Fatalities and AAA Partner on “Please Be Patient” New Driver Magnets

Zero Fatalities has partnered with AAA Mountain West Group and the Department of Public Safety to launch a new “Please be Patient” vehicle magnet initiative. As students head back to the classroom for the 2026-27 school year, these magnets are being introduced to provide peace of mind to families, knowing that surrounding motorists will be aware of newly licensed drivers and give them the extra space they need to safely navigate the road.

Funded by AAA, the “Please be Patient” magnets will be distributed to new teen drivers at Driver License Division (DLD) offices across the state. About 50,000 Utah teens receive their learner permits each year, and AAA has provided 50,000 magnets so each can receive one with their permit. The magnets serve as a simple, highly visible reminder for everyone to be patient and share the road responsibly.

“Zero Fatalities is always looking for ways to help teen drivers feel more comfortable while driving with a learner permit and parents and guardians feel confident as their teen learns to drive,” said Laurie Huntsman, Zero Fatalities Outreach Project Manager. “For years, parents have asked for ways to alert motorists of an inexperienced driver on the road. Thanks to a generous funding partnership with AAA, we are able to make that happen. We’re thrilled to partner with DLD to ensure every new driver receives a car magnet before their first trip behind the wheel.”

The magnets are a great reminder for all drivers to be aware and courteous on the road, while giving new drivers a little more space and grace.
