Madison County lawmakers: Local students encouraged to apply for House internship

STATEHOUSE (Sept. 28, 2026) – Madison County legislators are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.

State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R-Anderson) said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.

"The ability to work with others and communicate effectively is important no matter where a student goes after graduation," Pierce said. "An experience like this gives them an opportunity to strengthen those skills in a professional environment while serving their state."

State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.

"The transition from college to a career can bring a lot of questions, and hands-on experience can help young Hoosiers find the right direction," Rowray said. "I hope eligible students consider how this opportunity could contribute to their long-term goals."

Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.

State Rep. Ethan Lawson (R-Greenfield) said this spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.

"It is important for students to have opportunities to explore their interests before making long-term career decisions," Lawson said. "This internship can help them learn what they enjoy, get exposed to public service and state issues, and become more prepared for their next step."

"A student's professional network can grow through the experiences they choose to pursue," said State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion). "I encourage young Hoosiers to seek out opportunities like this where they can learn from others, be civically involved and develop relationships that support their future goals."

"An internship at the Statehouse gives students a head start that can pay dividends long after the legislative session ends," said State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers). "The skills, relationships and experience they gain can help prepare them for whatever career path they choose."

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
